Managing multiple services on a Proxmox server can become a challenge, especially when it comes to remembering all the web user interfaces (WebUI). Fortunately, I discovered an effective solution by implementing Heimdall, an application that centralizes all WebUI in a convenient dashboard.
What is Heimdall and Why is It Useful
Heimdall is a web-based dashboard designed to simplify access and management of services and applications with a web user interface. Its usefulness lies in its ability to provide a centralized point for accessing the WebUIs of all services installed on the Proxmox server. In short, Heimdall simplifies navigation between various web applications, making management and access more efficient.
Practical Implementation on Proxmox
- Creating an Ubuntu Container:
- Initially, I created an Ubuntu container on Proxmox, providing the environment in which Heimdall will run.
- Installing Docker and Docker-Compose:
- Subsequently, I installed Docker and Docker-Compose in the Ubuntu container to facilitate the execution of Heimdall in a containerized environment.
- Configuring Heimdall:
- Configuring Heimdall was straightforward, requiring a list of services and their respective WebUIs to be integrated into the dashboard.
- Accessing the Unified Dashboard:
- Once configured, Heimdall provided a unified dashboard accessible from a single point, listing all installed services with their respective web user interfaces.
Advantages of Heimdall on Proxmox
Implementing Heimdall has introduced several advantages in managing services on Proxmox:
